A Day at Hebrew School

Schmooze & Schmear

Our Sundays begin with Schmooze and Schmear, a warm and welcoming 15-minute gathering where students and their grownups can enjoy complimentary bagels, coffee, and other light refreshments. This time is designed to build community—families are encouraged to sit, chat, and connect before the school day officially begins. It’s a chance to ease into the morning, catch up with friends, and start the day with joy and togetherness.

Hebrew Learning

Our spiraled Hebrew curriculum meets learners where they are and builds skills step by step. Students first focus on Hebrew letter and sound identification, developing a strong foundation in the alef-bet. Once they demonstrate mastery, they move on to decoding, learning to read Hebrew words with confidence. Students also practice common Shabbat prayers, helping them build familiarity with synagogue life and feel connected to Jewish communities around the world.

Shira (Music)

Every first and third Sunday, students participate in joyful and interactive music sessions that celebrate both traditional and modern Reform Jewish music. Through singing, movement, and instruments, students learn holiday songs, Shabbat melodies, and contemporary Jewish tunes that bring our traditions to life. Music helps students build a joyful connection to Jewish culture, prayer, and community.

Jewish Connections

Previously known as Judaic Studies, Jewish Connections invites students to explore Jewish life through a meaningful lens. Each lesson is guided by the central question: How does this connect us to each other, our temple, our local community, or the global Jewish community? Through engaging, hands-on activities, students explore Jewish holidays, traditions, and values in ways that are relevant to their lives. Whether learning about tzedakah, celebrating a holiday, or discussing acts of kindness, students deepen their understanding of what it means to be part of the Jewish people—locally and worldwide.

T'filah

On the second and fourth Sunday of each month, the entire Hebrew School comes together for T’filah, a brief and meaningful prayer service. This shared experience allows students to engage with familiar prayers, build comfort with Jewish ritual, and feel the power of community through collective song and reflection. T’filah sets a thoughtful tone and spirit of connection that helps students carry Jewish values with them into the week ahead.

Bechirah (Electives)

The final 30 minutes of the day are dedicated to Bechirah, a time when students choose an area of interest to explore. Electives range from Israeli sports to gardening and are led by a diverse team of teachers, temple staff, temple members, and madrichim. Bechirah empowers students to follow their passions and build new connections through joyful, hands-on experiences.

Dismissal

We invite caretakers, guardians, and parents to come inside to pick up their children, or they can join our pick-up line.
